India, on Tuesday, 29th of March said that as a country it has taken a holistic approach towards the betterment of healthcare and highlighted the scheme of Ayushman Bharat which is based on the Twin pillars- providing insurance coverage for the tertiary and secondary hospitalization and access to primary healthcare service. The remarks were made by Ashish Sharma who is the Councillor of the permanent mission of India at the United Nation. This was discussed at the UNSC meeting on Global Health and Foreign Policy.
He also said that the Covid-19 pandemic has made healthcare officials realize the importance of a strong primary healthcare system. This means betterment in the effective public health system and an increase in the number of investments in health. Sharma further adds that India believes in providing critical importance for Global Health. The country’s efforts are currently focusing on the provision of financial and Technical Support for building capacities of the specific member states.
Following the approach of ‘One Earth, One Health’, India has consistently contributed to the Global action against the Covid-19 virus through the constant supply of vaccinations and other medical counter measures to over 150 countries. Sharma also highlighted the fact that India supplied more than 170 million doses of Covid-19 vaccination to 2 UN entities in 96 countries.
Sharma also said that India has provided indigenously developed mitigation Technology for Covid-19 along with producing solutions that are affordable and effective. Sharma added that the country is committed to partnering with the member states along with other stakeholders for synergizing the efforts, in order to accelerate progress in achieving a sustainable development goal and worldwide health coverage.
